Pravin, Raju, and Monika Win Gold at Second Open Judo Competition

At the second open judo competition, Pravin Diyali, Raju Sharma, and Monika Chaudhary from the Nepal Army secured gold medals. The event, held on Saturday, featured 52 players from 11 teams, including Nepal’s departmental teams. The winners were awarded by Toru Meda, Japan’s ambassador to Nepal, along with Saroj Maharjan, the event’s organizing director.

In the men’s under 73 kg final, Pravin Diyali defeated Subodh Mandal from the host academy. Army competitors Tarabahadur Bhujel and Anil Balami secured third place. In the men’s under 100 kg final, Raju Sharma triumphed over Tenzing Dorji from Bhutan’s Tri Force Judo Club. Indrosh Chaluney of APF and Dhirendrakumar Tharu of the Army finished third.

In the women’s under 57 kg category, Monika defeated Parbati Acharya of the Army in the final. Pema Yangji Sherpa from the Palm Judo Club and Sunita Thing of APF earned bronze medals. The top three athletes in each category received cash prizes of NPR 5,000, NPR 3,000, and NPR 2,000 respectively, along with gift hampers.

The one-day event saw competition among 52 players representing three departmental teams (Army, APF, and Nepal Police) and two clubs from Bhutan, making up 11 teams in total. Organizing academy director Saroj Maharjan provided these details.
