
The fifth National Wado-Ryu Karate Championship officially commenced in Kathmandu under the chief patronage of House of Representatives member Dr. Tosima Karki. The competition features 150 athletes from all seven provinces, competing across 14 different events. The tournament, which began on Saturday, will conclude on Sunday, according to the organizers.
Hosted by the Wado-Ryu Karate-Do Association, the championship continues its annual tradition this year as well. Treasurer Purushottam Pokharel shared that players are actively competing in the 14 scheduled events throughout the tournament.
In the men’s 50kg weight category, Bishan Thapa Magar from Lumbini defeated Suraj Yadav from Karnali, and Badal Limbu from Koshi overcame Sunil Bisht to secure their places in the finals. In the women’s 45kg weight division, Shusian Gurung from Lumbini clinched the gold medal, Garita Rajbanshi from Koshi took silver, while Osika Sharma from Bagmati and Sumana Tolangi from Karnali earned bronze medals. Organizers confirmed that the remaining matches will be held on Sunday to conclude the championship.
