Praveen, Raju, and Monika Secure Gold Medals at Second Open Judo Competition

At the second open judo competition, Praveen Diyali, Raju Sharma, and Monika Chaudhary from the Nepal Army claimed gold medals. The winners were awarded cash prizes and trophies by the Japanese Ambassador Toru Meda and organizer Saroj Maharjan. The one-day judo event held in Khusibu featured 52 athletes from 11 teams, including three departmental squads.
Praveen Diyali, Raju Sharma, and Monika Chaudhary each won gold medals at the second open judo competition. All three gold medalists represent the Nepal Army. In the men’s under 73 kg final, held at the Multi-purpose Martial Arts Center (MMAC) hall in Khusibu, Praveen defeated Subodh Mandal of the organizing academy. Army competitors Tarabahadur Bhujel and Anil Balami secured third place.
In the men’s under 100 kg final, Raju Sharma triumphed over Tenzing Dorjee from Bhutan’s Tri Force Judo Club. Indrosh Chaluney of the Armed Police Force (APF) and Dhirendrakumar Tharu of the Army took third positions. In the women’s under 57 kg category, Monika overcame Army teammate Parvati Acharya in the final. Pema Yangjee Sherpa from Palm Judo Club and Sunita Thing from APF earned bronze medals.
The first-place winners in all three categories received NPR 5,000 along with gift hampers, while second and third places were awarded NPR 3,000 and NPR 2,000 respectively. Ambassador Toru Meda of Japan, along with Academy director Saroj Maharjan and others, presented the awards during a ceremony. According to director Maharjan, the one-day event featured 52 participants from 11 teams, including three departmental teams from the Army, APF, and Nepal Police, as well as two clubs from Bhutan.
