
The 9th National Skateboard Competition, organized by the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association, is scheduled to take place on June 13 and 14 (Jestha 30 and 31) at Yambuddha Skatepark in Handigaun, Kathmandu. At a press conference on Monday, the association announced that approximately 400 selected players from across the country will participate. Among them, 250 male and 150 female players are expected to compete.
According to Association President Achyut Khanal, players will be selected from district and provincial levels, while some will register individually online to take part. The competition will span two days, with the first day dedicated to qualifying rounds and the finals held on the second day. The event will feature freestyle skateboarding disciplines, including ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Best Run’. Additionally, the ‘Skateboarder of the Year’ title will be awarded, as confirmed by the association.
Winners in the senior men’s and women’s categories will receive 30,000 NPR along with medals and certificates. The runners-up will be awarded 20,000 NPR, while third-place finishers will get 15,000 NPR in cash. In the junior categories for both men and women, first prize will be 15,000 NPR, second prize 10,000 NPR, and third prize 5,000 NPR.
Association General Secretary Satya Thapa stated that this competition will aid in the athlete selection process for the 20th Asian Games. According to him, two players will be finally selected for the Asian Games. So far, Gajendra Bardewa, Sharadkumar Rai, Basant Rai, and Khushi Bik have been included on the long list. The total budget for the competition is set at 2.1 million NPR, with cooperation from various sponsors. Arrangements have also been made for food and accommodation for players coming from outside Kathmandu.
Since its registration in 2013 at the National Sports Council, the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association has been organizing national competitions in various cities across the country. Past successful national competitions have taken place in Biratnagar, Butwal, Pokhara, and Kathmandu.
