Egg Prices Increase Again Within Five Days

The Nepal Layers Poultry Association has raised the support price of eggs by 15 rupees per dozen nationwide, considering both production costs and market demand. According to the new price list, the price per dozen for XL eggs is set at 575 rupees, large eggs at 560 rupees, and medium eggs at 530 rupees. Despite the increase in wholesale egg prices, the association stated that retail prices paid by consumers have not changed at this time.

May 11, Kathmandu – Egg prices have risen again within just five days. The Nepal Layers Poultry Association has implemented another increase in the support price for eggs starting Friday. Previously, the association had set prices beginning May 7. Following a physical and virtual meeting of egg producers in Kathmandu, the association determined new prices based on production costs and market demand, using Chitwan as a reference point, according to the association’s secretary Madan Pokharel.

The new price schedule shows an increase of 15 rupees per dozen across all egg categories at the farm (wholesale) level. The price for XL eggs, which was 560 rupees per dozen as of May 7, has now risen to 575 rupees. Similarly, the price for large eggs increased from 545 to 560 rupees, while medium eggs rose from 515 to 530 rupees per dozen. Small eggs saw a significant increase of 200 rupees per dozen, reaching 3,200 rupees compared to the previous 3,000 rupees.

Although farm (wholesale) egg prices have steadily increased, retail prices for consumers remain unchanged for now. According to the association, consumers will still be able to purchase eggs at 25 rupees each. The association has urged all businesses, farm operators, and stakeholders to conduct transactions based on the new pricing to help balance egg supply and demand in the market.
