Trump Claims Iran’s Supreme Leader Agrees to New Nuclear Deal, Military Attacks Called Off

US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has agreed to a new pact to refrain from developing nuclear weapons. According to Trump, negotiations with Iran’s leadership have reached the highest level, prompting the US to cancel planned airstrikes and bombings against Iran. This decision has led to a decline in crude oil prices in global markets. Kathmandu, June 12.
Speaking to a journalist at the White House, Trump said, ‘In the new agreement, Iran has accepted that it will never possess nuclear weapons, and once the deal is finalized, the Strait of Hormuz will reopen.’ Previously, Trump had threatened severe bombings on Iran and the seizure of the strategically significant Farur Island. He later announced via social media that new US airstrikes and bombings against Iran have been called off.
Trump stated that the change in decision resulted from talks reaching the highest levels with Iranian leadership. However, he added that until the agreement is fully finalized, the US blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will remain. Trump further claimed that Iran has not only agreed to stop developing nuclear weapons but has also consented to refrain from purchasing them.
According to Trump, the initial negotiations only covered the topic of not developing nuclear weapons. He explained, ‘I asked whether purchasing was included. They initially said no. Two days later, they agreed on that as well. We have gotten everything we wanted.’
Following Trump’s decision to cancel the proposed military strikes on Iran, oil prices have fallen in the global market. On Friday, Brent crude oil prices dropped by $1.21, or 1.3%, to $89.17 per barrel. Similarly, US WTI crude oil declined by $1.23, or 1.4%, to $86.48 per barrel. Both benchmark indices showed a weekly decrease in prices.
