Germany Secures Dominant 7-1 Victory Over Debutants Curaçao in FIFA World Cup 2026 Opener

Germany achieved a commanding 7-1 win against debutant Curaçao in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Despite Curaçao’s first-ever World Cup appearance, their player Livano Comenencia made history by scoring their inaugural goal against the former champions. The four-time World Cup winners Germany comfortably defeated Curaçao 7-1 in this Group E match held at Houston Stadium, USA. Though the Caribbean nation Curaçao scored their first-ever World Cup goal against the former champions, they were unable to stop Germany’s scoring spree. Kai Havertz scored twice for Germany, while Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, and Denis Undav each contributed one goal.

Captain Joshua Kimmich provided two assists. Felix Nmecha opened the scoring for Germany as early as the sixth minute, giving them an early lead. Germany maintained relentless pressure on Curaçao. However, Livano Comenencia equalized in the 21st minute, leveling the score at 1-1. Germany regained the lead quickly when center-back Nico Schlotterbeck scored in the 38th minute.

Schlotterbeck scored with a header from a Nathaniel Brown corner. Havertz then increased Germany’s lead with a penalty goal during the fifth minute of first-half injury time, bringing the score to 3-1 at halftime. Germany’s dominance continued into the second half with Jamal Musiala scoring in the 47th minute, followed by goals from Brown at 68 minutes and Undav at 78.

With this straightforward victory in their opener, Germany secured three points in Group E. After winning the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, Germany had been eliminated in the group stages in both 2018 and 2022. This early win strengthens Germany’s prospects of reaching the knockout stages this time. Germany will next face Ivory Coast, while Curaçao will compete against Ecuador. The other Group E match between Ivory Coast and Ecuador is scheduled for Monday morning.
