Training Ground, Budhanilkantha, Annapurna, and ISA Secure Wins at 10th National Women’s Open Basketball Championship
September 17, Kathmandu – Training Ground, Budhanilkantha Municipality, Annapurna, and ISA Nepal began their campaigns with victories on Monday at the 10th National Women’s Open Basketball Championship. Organized by the Nepal Basketball Association (NEBA), the tournament commenced Monday at the Kirtipur Covered Hall.
In the opening match within Group A, Training Ground convincingly defeated Lumbini Province by a wide margin of 84-23. Maintaining the lead throughout all four quarters, Training Ground posted scores of 24-8, 26-6, 22-1, and 12-8 respectively. Roshani Shrestha was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Budhanilkantha defeated a competitive Grandi Stars team 50-38. Although Grandi led the first quarter 16-12 and the second quarter 9-5, holding a 25-17 advantage at halftime, Budhanilkantha surged in the final two quarters with 10-1 and 23-12 runs to secure the win. Anusha Malla, captain of the national team, earned Player of the Match honors.
In another Group A fixture featuring two teams from outside the valley, Annapurna Basketball Association beat Sunsari Basketball Association 44-35. Annapurna posted quarter scores of 10-5, 13-5, 5-10, and 16-15. Nibeti Sharma from Annapurna was declared Player of the Match.
Additionally, in a closely contested Group A match, ISA Nepal edged out Let’s Go Basketball Academy 48-41. Let’s Go Basketball Academy led the first quarter 18-12, but ISA Nepal responded strongly, leading the second quarter 11-6. Both teams scored 10 points each in the third quarter. Although Let’s Go led 34-33 going into the final quarter, ISA dominated the fourth quarter 15-7 to claim victory. Mila Lama Tamang from ISA was named Player of the Match.
