Madan Bhandari Cup U-19 School-Level Volleyball Tournament to Begin Sunday

The Madan Bhandari Cup U-19 School-Level Bagmati Province Girls Volleyball Tournament, organized by the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, is set to commence on Sunday. Among the eight participating teams, the top four will receive cash prizes of NPR 100,000, 50,000, 30,000, and 15,000 respectively. The four-day event, held in celebration of Madan Bhandari’s 75th birth anniversary, is expected to incur expenses of approximately NPR 2.7 million. (June 20, Kathmandu)

Announcing the tournament at a press conference on Saturday, Dhruv Acharya, president of the organizing Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, stated that the competition will feature eight teams divided into two groups competing in a league cum knockout format. Group A includes New Diamond Youth Sports Club, Saraswati Secondary School in Helambu, Amar Jyoti Technical School of Nuwakot, and Angels Sports Academy. Group B consists of New Diamond Academy, Elixir Academy, Ganesh Himal School, and Surya Binayak, Bhaktapur.

Ram KC, tournament coordinator and president of the Bagmati Province branch of the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, provided details on the prizes: the top four teams will be awarded NPR 100,000, 50,000, 30,000, and 15,000 in cash prizes respectively. Additionally, the best player will receive NPR 10,000, while the top spiker, setter, blocker, defender, server, and coach will each be awarded NPR 5,000. The official ball partner for the event is Molten.

President Acharya emphasized the academy’s goal of promoting sports participation across all segments of society and noted that it has been conducting various sports programs across different regions of the country. Coordinator KC highlighted the importance of age-group tournaments as a vital avenue to identify promising future athletes. According to the organizers, approximately NPR 2.7 million will be spent to conduct the competition. The matches over the four-day tournament, marking Madan Bhandari’s 75th birthday celebrations, will take place at the Angels Sports Academy ground located in Manmaiju.
