YouTube Rolls Out New UI Update for Mobile App with Changes to Membership Pricing

YouTube has rolled out a new update to its mobile app’s user interface, redesigning icons such as Like, Share, and Ask. To address fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, YouTube has also announced adjustments to the channel membership pricing structure. Creators are required to review the new pricing recommendations by August 17, 2026, or else automatic updates will be applied.

This update aims to better organize in-video engagement indicators. The company is revising the membership pricing system to reflect international currency exchange rates. As part of the first update, YouTube has altered the appearance of the Like, Dislike, Share, and Ask icons within the mobile app. The numeric counts previously displayed next to these icons below the video player have been removed. Now, engagement metrics will appear below the video title and alongside the channel name.

YouTube has moved features like Save, Download, and Report into the three-dot menu. This new layout seeks to enhance the overall video playback experience. However, users accustomed to the earlier design may experience some initial confusion. Additionally, to align with foreign exchange rates, YouTube is updating channel membership pricing. Channels registered under the YouTube Partner Program will have the ability to set their own membership prices.

Third-party users will be able to set prices up to $499.99 per month. Channels will offer exclusive features such as members-only videos for fans who subscribe. Creators have expressed concerns that exchange rate volatility has caused significant fluctuations in membership costs, making subscriptions expensive for international fans. To address this, YouTube is introducing new rules to balance fees based on location.

According to René Ritchie, Head of Editorial at YouTube, membership prices for new subscriptions will be updated according to international exchange rates. This will help stabilize the membership system for creators worldwide, with relevant notifications provided to creators. Creators can review the proposed changes or set custom prices until August 17, 2026. If no action is taken by then, the updates will be applied automatically. YouTube will also provide a “Smart Pricing Recommendations” feature within YouTube Studio, which will suggest membership fees based on the audience demographics and regions of the creator’s viewers. YouTube aims to maintain balanced membership pricing globally, and creators will be allowed to adjust pricing tiers only once per year.
