Shahbaz Sharif Declares Switzerland Meeting Successful, Final Agreement Expected Within 60 Days

June 22, Kathmandu. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced that the first high-level talks between the United States and Iran held in Switzerland were successful. Acting as the chief mediator, he informed on Monday via X that the discussions had concluded positively.

Prime Minister Sharif stated, “Under the framework of the Islamabad Agreement, the first high-level committee meeting was successfully held in Baar, Switzerland. The discussions took place in a positive and constructive environment.”

He noted encouraging progress in the talks, explaining, “The agenda includes reaching a roadmap agreement toward a final pact within 60 days, establishing a high-level committee for political oversight, and initiating further technical discussions.” He also praised both the US and Iran for demonstrating constructive engagement and continued commitment.

“I extend my gratitude to all brotherly and friendly nations for their invaluable support in advancing this historic process,” Sharif wrote. He particularly expressed appreciation and thanks for Qatar’s role. Additionally, he acknowledged the facilitation by the Swiss government, as well as significant contributions from Pakistan’s own Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. “Pakistan will continue to lead dialogue and diplomacy towards a peaceful and sustainable resolution,” he affirmed.
