Five Reasons Why Netanyahu Is Dissatisfied with the US-Iran Peace Agreement

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that both he and US President Donald Trump tend to act according to their own priorities rather than always fulfilling each other’s wishes. He reiterated that his military will remain in southern Lebanon as long as necessary. Netanyahu stated, “We are leaders of a sovereign and proud nation. Sometimes our perspectives may differ. We are committed to our interests, and I am uncompromising when it comes to Israel’s security and well-being.” He added, “We will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as it is essential to ensure the safety of the residents in our northern region and all citizens across the country.”

This statement has been linked to President Trump’s reaction to Israel’s military action against Lebanon. Last week, at the G7 summit held in France, a ceasefire agreement was signed between the US and Iran, which stipulated a halt to all hostilities, including in Lebanon. However, the Israeli attacks in Lebanon following the agreement caused significant casualties and widespread grief. Iran, in the past, has regarded these actions as a clear violation of the peace accord.

It is important to recall that the first article of the agreement affirms that the US, Iran, and their allies will immediately and permanently cease all military operations on every front, including Lebanon. Israel’s actions have been viewed as a threat to the peace agreement. Trump has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with this issue from the beginning. During last week’s G7 conference, speaking with the press, President Trump strongly criticized Netanyahu and labeled the Israeli attacks in Lebanon as unnecessary.

Trump said, “Israel has long been in conflict with Hezbollah, which has led to many deaths. But destroying the entire region is not appropriate because ordinary civilians live there. Not all people are supporters of Hezbollah.” Indeed, this US-Iran agreement presents a significant challenge for Netanyahu. It has raised questions about his political career. We will now discuss the five reasons why Netanyahu is discontented with this peace agreement.
