Special Precautions Needed for Consuming Meat During Summer

The summer season is currently underway. To find relief from the heat, people adopt various measures and consume cooling foods. Typically, light and easily digestible foods are preferred during this time. However, some individuals stick to their favorite foods regardless of the season. Whether it is summer, winter, or monsoon, many people cannot do without meat. According to health experts, extra caution is required when consuming meat, especially chicken and mutton, during summer. Chicken and mutton contain high levels of protein and fat, which require the body to work harder to digest. Experts advise against eating chicken and mutton during the daytime in hot weather for health reasons.

What problems can arise? 1. Increased Body Temperature: When we consume protein-rich foods like chicken or mutton, the process of thermogenesis becomes active in the body. Digestion of protein consumes more energy than carbohydrates or fat, which raises internal body temperature. Eating chicken or mutton during the day can cause a sudden rise in body temperature leading to excessive sweating and discomfort. 2. Digestive Issues: Experts point out that metabolism is generally less active during summer afternoons. Red meat like mutton contains a high amount of saturated fat, which takes longer to digest. Consuming red meat in hot weather can cause heavy stomach sensation, acidity, bloating, and indigestion. 3. Risk of Dehydration: Digesting chicken and mutton requires a substantial amount of water. Increased metabolism and body temperature can lead to water deficiency. If you eat meat during the day but do not drink enough water, dehydration may occur, resulting in dizziness, weakness, and urinary tract infections.

What should you do? If you are a meat lover, it is advisable to consume meat at least 2-3 hours before sleep during summer evenings. When preparing meat, avoid using heavy spices and excessive oil. During the day, light grilled chicken or chicken soup can be consumed moderately. However, it is best to avoid red meat such as goat meat during midday.
