Sompul Kami, known primarily as a cricketer whose athletic skills and career are well recognized, also has an often unseen side to his life. He is a spiritual, compassionate, and empathetic individual who deeply cares for animals. This affection sometimes manifests on the cricket field, where he lovingly touches dogs that approach him. He also spends his leisure time visiting dog shelters around Kathmandu and actively participates in caring for and protecting community dogs.
Sompul shared a photo on Facebook playing with a street dog, captioning it, ‘Street dogs are dangerous. Street dogs and me.’ This caption offers a satirical commentary on society’s perception of street dogs. He personally owns a dog himself, and featuring a photo of his pet as background, he wrote, ‘If you are lucky, one day a dog enters your life, wins your heart, and changes your life.’
Sompul firmly believes that his close relationship with dogs has enriched and beautified his life. He has shared numerous photos on Facebook showing moments of exercising, relaxing, and doing photoshoots with dogs. In one post, he featured a photo of his loving dog peacefully sleeping with the caption, ‘He makes my day happy every day.’ Recently, he posted a video featuring cows, in which he is seen feeding mangoes to a cow. The video has no caption, allowing the visual to speak powerfully for itself. The background includes the song from the film ‘Laal Singh Chadha’ playing, ‘Kya Pata Hum Mein Hain Kahani…’
