Belgium Defeats New Zealand 5-1 to Top Group at FIFA World Cup 2026

Belgium secured the top spot in their group at the FIFA World Cup 2026 by defeating New Zealand with a commanding 5-1 victory. The win added 5 points to Belgium’s tally, ensuring their progression to the knockout stage. The match, held in Canada, saw Belgium’s Leandro Trossard score twice, while Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Alexis Saelemaekers each contributed a goal.

Prior to this match, Belgium had drawn two games and achieved their first win here, propelling them to the top position in the group. Trossard opened the scoring in the 28th minute, giving Belgium an early lead. He doubled the advantage with a second goal in the 50th minute. Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku extended the lead further with goals in the 66th and 86th minutes, respectively. Alexis Saelemaekers added a fifth goal in the fourth minute of injury time. New Zealand’s Elisha Just managed to pull one back in the 84th minute.
