Mexico to Face England in Round of 16 Clash

Following England’s 2-1 victory over DR Congo on Wednesday night, Mexico has earned the opportunity to compete against England. Kathmandu, 18 Ashadh – Co-host Mexico of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will face England in the Round of 16 after England defeated DR Congo.

Having played four matches so far, Mexico maintains a perfect winning record with clean sheets, while England’s performance has been more inconsistent. This sets the stage for an exciting encounter. The match will take place at Mexico’s home ground, the Azteca Stadium, where Mexico has won all four previous home games in this tournament. In the Round of 32, Mexico secured their place in the last 16 by defeating Ecuador 2-0.

The Round of 16 match against England will be Mexico’s final home game in this World Cup. Should Mexico win, they will advance to face the winner between Brazil and Norway at the Hard Rock Stadium. Mexico began the tournament strongly, beating South Africa 2-0 in their first game, edging South Korea 1-0 in the second, and defeating the Czech Republic 3-0 in the third. So far, Mexico has scored 8 goals without conceding any.

On the other hand, England kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia. They then played to a goalless draw against Ghana and won their final group stage match 2-0 against Panama. Ranked fourth in the FIFA rankings, England faced a comparatively weaker DR Congo team in the Round of 32. Despite falling behind just seven minutes into the game, England rallied to win 2-1, with both goals scored by captain Harry Kane.
