Portugal Defeats Croatia to Secure Spot in FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16

Trailing by one goal, strikes from Ronaldo and Ramos turned the match around, earning Portugal a crucial victory. Portugal will now face neighboring Spain in the Round of 16.

The match, held in Toronto, saw Croatian player Ivan Perisic put his team ahead in the 53rd minute. However, Cristiano Ronaldo equalized from the penalty spot in the 68th minute, marking his first-ever World Cup knockout-stage goal. With both teams level near the end of regulation time, the thrilling contest was decided in the fourth minute of second-half injury time when Goncalo Ramos headed in the winning goal.
