In India, it has been uncovered that content related to child abuse is being promoted as advertisements on Instagram to generate revenue. According to a new investigation by BBC i, these ads direct users to the messaging app Telegram, where they can purchase abusive videos.
BBC correspondent Divya Arya carried out the investigation by contacting India’s cyber police, a former Meta official, and a retired judge. Meta has stated that it removes content violating its policies from the platform and informs relevant authorities, but denies knowingly promoting such material.
