Decision to Classify the Operational Sectors of Banks and Financial Institutions

June 7, Kathmandu – Nepal Rastra Bank has decided to classify the operational sectors of banks and financial institutions. The central bank is currently conducting a study for this classification. In the process, preparations are underway to categorize infrastructure banks, commercial banks, development banks, finance companies, microfinance institutions, and various pension funds. Since these institutions perform similar activities, the central bank has initiated a study to define targeted operational sectors for them. The upcoming monetary policy for the next fiscal year will complete the study on the classification of banks and financial institutions, and accordingly implement regulatory measures to expand services and promote banking and non-banking financial institutions within their designated operational sectors.
