MP Balawati Sharma Accuses Government: Provided Only Tears to Vulnerable Holding Center Residents
MP Balawati Sharma has accused the government of offering nothing but tears instead of food and shelter to vulnerable individuals at the holding center. In a statement during the parliamentary session, she highlighted that the government’s decision to cut off food and water has plunged the center’s residents into a crisis. Referencing Ganesh Nepali’s self-immolation and the deplorable conditions within the holding center, she questioned how difficult life has become for the poor in the country.
26 Ashad, Kathmandu – Balawati Sharma, a member of the Nepal Communist Party, stated that the government failed to provide food and housing to the vulnerable residents of the holding center, despite their warnings before attempting suicide. During Friday’s parliamentary meeting, she emphasized that after the government halted food and water supplies, the inhabitants of the holding center are now left in dire straits.
“Indra Rai and others were the first to attempt suicide. How many more will be forced to die due to the government’s treatment?” Sharma questioned. She further explained, “Yesterday, 25-year-old Ganesh Nepali set himself on fire after being unable to pay a fine and other essential fees because his livelihood-bike was locked due to wheel lock enforcement. This illustrates the unbearable conditions faced by the poor in this country,” she stated during the parliamentary session. “The situation in the holding center is no different.”
