Dental Clinic Shut Down for Extracting 12 Teeth from Elderly Patient and Embezzling Entire Bank Account

In Shanxi Province, China, local authorities have shut down a dental clinic after it extracted 12 teeth from an elderly patient and fraudulently siphoned off his entire bank account. The clinic was found to have fabricated documents and provided inappropriate treatment despite the patient’s critical health condition. Officials have ordered the clinic to refund all treatment fees and have initiated legal action.

The 63-year-old man, surnamed Li from northwest Shanxi Province, visited Datuanyuan Dental Clinic last September due to toothache. The clinic staff sent a vehicle to pick him up and provided free examinations. Lured by the clinic’s advertisement, Li consented to have his remaining 12 teeth extracted and 10 implants installed.

Subsequently, the clinic staff withdrew 18,800 yuan from his bank account and digital wallet, leaving a balance of only 30 yuan after excluding a remaining bill of 6,200 yuan. Upon witnessing his father’s deteriorating condition, Li’s son filed a complaint against the clinic at the local health office.

The elderly patient suffered from serious ailments including coronary heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, and had four stents implanted. Extracting teeth and immediately placing implants is considered highly risky under such circumstances. Investigations revealed the clinic falsified the patient’s medical records by listing the patient as female and created fake documents. A probe by the local health bureau found that the clinic had failed to conduct a thorough pre-operative assessment and maintained inaccurate medical records.
