Nepali Wrestling Team Departs for Specialized Training in India Ahead of 20th Asian Games

The Nepali wrestling team is set to depart for India on Thursday for a specialized training camp in preparation for the 20th Asian Games. The nine-member contingent, comprising six athletes, one coach, and two managers, will undergo 45 days of intensive training in New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Jeevan Ram Shrestha, President of the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), has urged the athletes and coaching staff to fully focus on training to ensure an outstanding performance at the Asian Games. In preparation for the 20th Asian Games scheduled to be held in Japan, the Nepali wrestling team is leaving for India this Thursday for overseas training. The male athletes include Suresh Chunara (74 kg), Ramkishor Yadav (65 kg), Nikhilraj Patel (86 kg), and Raj Yadav (125 kg). The female contingent consists of Sushila Chand (62 kg) and Shivangi Duwe (57 kg). The training camp will take place in New Delhi from July 17 to September 15.

The team is led by coach Rajendra Chand, with Khagendrabahadur Basnet as manager and Mumtaz Ali as assistant manager. Throughout their approximately 45-day stay in India, the athletes will train at various academies across New Delhi, Nandninagar in Uttar Pradesh, and other locations, according to Prakash Kumar Kusari, President of Nepal Wrestling Association. The Nepal Olympic Committee organized a farewell ceremony for the wrestling team on Tuesday. NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and General Secretary Rajiv Shrestha extended their best wishes to the team during the send-off.

NOC Secretary Bhim Gurung and Nepal Wrestling Association President Prakash Kumar Kusari were also present at the event. President Shrestha emphasized that this training camp will be crucial for a stellar performance at the upcoming Asian Games and stressed the importance of full dedication from both athletes and coaches during this period. The 20th Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from October 3 to October 18. According to President Kusari, the team will proceed directly from India to Japan for the competition.
