Residents of Thori Rural Municipality in Parsa district are facing disruptions in banking and government services due to unreliable Nepal Telecom network coverage. The telecom towers cease to function during power outages, resulting in difficulties accessing emergency ambulance services and flood-related warnings.
Despite repeated notifications to the Federal Ministry of Communications and the Telecommunications Authority, the lack of backup power at the towers has prevented resolution of these network issues.
The ineffective Nepal Telecom service in Thori has caused significant hardships for the local population. During storms or the rainy season, power cuts lead to network outages, alarming residents. Local resident Chiranjivi Sapkota noted that inadequate backup facilities at the towers are at the root of the problem.
Although Nepal Telecom has installed towers at four locations—Thori, Brahmanagar, Vijaybasti, and Swarnapur—Amrit Shrestha, another local, stated that network problems persist due to the absence of backup power. These disruptions negatively impact banking transactions, online payments, educational activities, and government operations. The inability to promptly relay flood risk alerts to police and summon emergency ambulances during the monsoon season further exacerbates residents’ difficulties.
Though locals have conveyed these concerns repeatedly through written and verbal communication to Nepal Telecom, the Telecommunications Authority, and the Ministry of Communications, their grievances remain unaddressed, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.
