June 15, Kathmandu – The government has decided to honor Nepali athletes who have won medals at international competitions with cash prizes.
During the Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday, a decision was taken to provide cash awards to athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, physiotherapists, and managers involved in international competitions who have won medals.
The Ministry of Education and Sports had presented a proposal to the Council recommending the recognition and encouragement of athletes through cash awards. Based on this proposal, the government has committed to honoring medal-winning athletes and teams.
According to the National Sports Development Regulations, 2022 (Second Amendment, 2025), cash awards totaling NPR 105,148,500 will be provided to athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, managers, and physiotherapists. Previously, due to a lack of budget, the prizes were not disbursed on time.
The Ministry of Sports confirmed that 101 individuals, including medal-winning athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, managers, and physiotherapists, will be recognized and awarded cash prizes.
Among the recipients are four athletes who won medals at the 15th World Bodybuilding and Physical Championship 2024 held in the Maldives; 18 female and 18 male players from the silver medal-winning teams in the first Kho-Kho World Cup 2025 in India.
Additionally, three athletes who secured bronze medals at the UWW Asian Belt Wrestling 2025; three bronze medalists from the 10th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship 2025 in Malaysia; seven female players from the bronze-medal-winning beach kabaddi team at the 6th Asian Beach Games 2026 in China; and 17 athletes who won gold at the ASC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup 2025 in Malaysia will also be rewarded.
Further, one bronze medalist from the 57th Bodybuilding and Physical Championship 2025 in Thailand; one gold medalist from the Asian Pacific Motorsport Championship 2025 in Sri Lanka; nine gold and bronze medalists from the ISF Gymnasiad 2024 held in Bahrain; and 20 athletes and coaches from the men’s T-20 World Cup qualifiers in Oman, who secured first place and earned World Cup qualification, will receive prizes.
The Ministry stated that the proposal, prepared based on the recommendation of the National Sports Council (NSC), has been approved by the Council of Ministers, after which the relevant players and teams will be honored with cash awards.
