The Nepalese women’s Under-19 cricket team faced a heartbreaking defeat against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in a dramatic Super Over during the ACC U-19 Women’s Premier Cup semifinal. Both teams scored 100 runs in the allotted 20 overs, leading the match into a Super Over where Nepal managed 6 runs but UAE accomplished the target in just 3 balls to secure victory.
In the match held on Monday, Nepal was chasing a target of 101 runs but were bowled out for 100 in 20 overs. Anup Kadayat was the highest scorer for Nepal with 20 runs, while Sana Praveen and Alisha Yadav contributed 17 runs each. For UAE, Vaishnavi Mahesh was the leading bowler, taking 3 wickets, supported by Sai Nikhil with 2 wickets, and Mehak Thakur and Janani Thirukumaran each claiming 1 wicket.
UAE won the toss and chose to bat first, posting 100 runs in 19.5 overs. Mehul Kulkarni top-scored with an impressive 30 runs, accompanied by Lavanya Kenny’s 25 and Neha Kumari’s unbeaten 19. Riya Sharma and Anup Kadayat played a significant role for Nepal by taking 3 wickets each, while Tirsana Vik took 2 wickets and Manisha Upadhyay claimed 1 wicket.
With this victory, UAE progresses to the final to face Thailand, while Nepal will compete against Indonesia tomorrow for third place. Nepal has already secured qualification for the Asia Cup. Both upcoming matches are scheduled to take place tomorrow.
