3rd Shrawan, Kathmandu – The Nepali men’s volleyball team departing to compete in the Kavha Men’s Volleyball Championship, which will take place in Islamabad, Pakistan from July 22 to 29, has been formally bid farewell.
The send-off event was organized by the Nepal Volleyball Association on Sunday. Vice Chairman of the National Sports Council (NSC), Vishal Shrestha, extended best wishes for the team’s outstanding performance as he saw them off.
According to Roshan Shrestha, General Secretary of the Nepal Volleyball Association, the Kavha Men’s Volleyball Championship is a FIVB world-ranked event.
This will be the first time Nepal’s men’s team competes in a world-ranked tournament. The team, led by captain Harihjura Thapa, includes six new players.
The team is coached by Jagdish Prasad Bhatt with assistant coach Rupesh Kumar Bista supporting the squad.
A total of six teams, including hosts Pakistan and Nepal, will compete in the tournament.
Jitendra Bahadur Chand, President of the Nepal Volleyball Association, noted that while Nepal has hosted the Kavya Women’s World-Ranked Volleyball Championship before, this is the first time the men’s team will participate in a ranked tournament, marking an important milestone.
Chand expressed confidence that the men’s team will achieve a strong position. Reflecting on Nepal’s past performance, he mentioned winning a bronze medal at the Maldives event in 2017 and instances where the team came close to medaling but was unlucky.
He emphasized that each match in this ranked tournament will be crucial. While Pakistan and Kazakhstan are strong teams, the other four contenders are considered to be similarly matched.
President Chand declared that if Nepal wins a medal or reaches the final, each player will be awarded NPR 300,000 by the Nepal Volleyball Association.
