In the fiscal year 2082/83, Dhanusha district recorded the highest number of labor permits issued for foreign employment, with 38,553 individuals obtaining approval. According to data from the Department of Foreign Employment, Manang had the lowest number, with only 217 individuals receiving permits for overseas work. During this period, a total of 792,187 people were granted labor permits, with the number of workers from Terai region districts exceeding those from the Himalayan districts.
Data released by the Department of Foreign Employment indicates that among 77 districts, Dhanusha topped the list with the highest number of migrant workers going abroad. Following Dhanusha, Jhapa recorded 35,124; Morang, 31,124; Siraha, 30,211; Mahottari, 28,229; Rupandehi, 25,391; Sunsari, 24,365; Sarlahi, 23,200; Saptari, 20,559; and Chitwan, 19,803 labor permits issued for foreign employment.
Conversely, only 217 individuals from Manang obtained labor permits for foreign employment. Other Himalayan districts with relatively low numbers include Mustang with 244, Dolpa with 614, Humla with 643, Doti with 1,165, Kalikot with 1,024, Jumla with 1,394, Rasuwa with 1,771, Western Rukum with 2,166, Dadeldhura with 2,319, and Darchula with 2,353 labor permits issued.
Throughout the fiscal year, a total of 792,187 labor permits were issued for foreign employment. Among these, 697,096 were men and 95,091 were women. After cancellations and reissuances, the number of new labor permits issued amounted to 406,404, according to department statistics. The data clearly shows that a larger proportion of foreign employment seekers come from the Terai region, while the Himalayan and less populated districts have significantly fewer individuals obtaining labor permits.
