Rahul Gandhi Demands Narendra Modi Apologize for Police Assault on Students During Protest

5 Shrawan, Kathmandu – Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologize for the police baton charge against protesting students. Speaking to reporters in the Lok Sabha parliamentary premises on Tuesday, the leader of the opposition stated that Modi must seek forgiveness from the students.

On Monday, during a demonstration organized by the Cuckroach Janata Party (CJP) in New Delhi, police used severe force against participants. The police deployed baton charges and tear gas on the students, an incident that has sparked intense protests across India.

Gandhi accused the government of trying to avoid parliamentary discussion on the students’ issues. “We requested the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to allow a discussion on the students’ concerns in the parliament,” Gandhi told the press. “However, the Speaker said that such a discussion requires the government’s approval.” He emphasized that the ongoing issues are deeply linked to the future of the students. “The students are being beaten, which is unacceptable. Narendra Modi has yet to even apologize for this. These young people are protesting against a broken education system and flawed examination processes,” he added.

He urged Prime Minister Modi to apologize and called for an end to the assault on students. Meanwhile, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan denied that students were beaten, supporting the claims made by Home Minister Amit Shah. Gandhi insisted that due to these contradictions, Home Minister Shah should resign. On Tuesday, Gandhi also visited hospitalized injured protesters from the CJP demonstration.
