UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham Announces VAT Cut on Household Electricity from October 1

Newly appointed UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced a cut in VAT on household electricity bills starting from October 1. This move is expected to save typical energy consumers approximately £45 annually. He made this announcement on his very first day in office.

According to reports, the VAT reduction on electricity bills will help average household consumers save around £45 per year. The impact of the wholesale price changes due to the conflict in West Asia had previously caused a 13% increase in typical bills in the UK in July, equivalent to about £18 per month.

Reducing VAT on household electricity charges will help alleviate the pressure of living costs. Green Party leader Jack Polanski called it “a start” but emphasized that more needs to be done. He stated, ‘This will not be enough for the millions of families facing another harsh winter.’
