Kathmandu, 21 July – In the first ODI of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series that began today in the Netherlands, Nepal was defeated by Namibia. Nepal set a target of 158 runs, which Namibia achieved in 37.3 overs at the cost of 2 wickets during the match played on Tuesday night. For Namibia, Jan Frylinck remained unbeaten on 77 runs, while opener Michael van Lingen scored 51. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton was unbeaten at 17 runs. For Nepal, Nandan Yadav and captain Rohit Paudel took 1 wicket each.
After losing the toss, Nepal batted first and was all out for 157 runs in 46.5 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel top scored with 31 runs, followed by Dipendra Singh Aire with 30 runs. The pair put on a 53-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but other batsmen failed to contribute significantly. Nepali batsmen struggled on the Netherlands pitch. For Namibia, JJ Smuts took 6 wickets conceding just 36 runs in 9.5 overs. Bernard Scholtz and Jack Shutt claimed 2 wickets each. Nepal’s next match is against the Netherlands on Thursday in the second game of the series.
