Sonam Wangchuk has stated in a letter that he is willing to end his hunger strike if the government provides clear assurances. He urged the authorities to ensure accountability for those involved in the exam paper leak case and to offer compensation to the affected families. Protesters opposing the NEET paper leak continue their movement, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
In his letter, Sonam Wangchuk mentioned that he is ready to call off his hunger strike peacefully if he receives a clear commitment from the government. Addressing students, he said, “Once the government provides assurance, I will urge all peaceful protesting students to pause the movement and begin dialogue with the government.” In his letter addressed to JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, he wrote, “Thank you for visiting me at the hospital last night and requesting me to end the hunger strike. During our conversation, you assured me that the government would take positive steps on the following issues.”
The letter further stated, “Appropriate compensation will be provided to the families of students who committed suicide following the exam paper leak. A meaningful discussion will be held in Parliament to ensure accountability. The honorable Education Minister’s resignation will also be considered.” Sonam wrote, “If the government gives such assurances, I will confidently end my hunger strike. The government understands not only my aspirations but also those of millions of young Indians. However, if such commitments are not made, I will be compelled to continue the hunger strike indefinitely.” He added, “I hope law enforcement authorities will not resort to excessive force again to suppress the movement.” The Cockroach Janata Party has been protesting at Jantar-Mantar over the NEET paper leak issue. Demonstrators are demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Sonam Wangchuk has been on hunger strike since June 28 on this demand.
