Trump Claims US-Saudi Civil Nuclear Deal Will Only Take Effect if Saudi Arabia Recognizes Israel

August 24, Kathmandu – Former US President Donald Trump has asserted that the civil nuclear energy agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia will only be implemented if Saudi Arabia formally recognizes Israel as a sovereign state. In a message posted on his social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump set a condition requiring Saudi Arabia to join the historic Abraham Accords.

Trump stated, “The civil nuclear deal between the US Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia, similar to agreements with Iran, the UAE, and other countries, will be approved solely for non-military purposes.”

He further added, “However, this is entirely dependent on Saudi Arabia’s decision to join the prestigious and successful Abraham Accords. The US is not opposed to the development of civilian nuclear facilities.”

It remains unclear whether the condition of Saudi Arabia recognizing Israel and joining the Abraham Accords is included in the core agreement of the US-Saudi nuclear deal, as the full draft of the agreement has yet to be released publicly. Additionally, there is no official information available on whether Saudi Arabia has accepted this condition put forth by the US. According to sources, Saudi Arabia has not provided any official response to Trump’s recent statements.
