Renu Tamang Granted Wild Card for Asian Para Games

Para taekwondo athlete Renu Tamang will participate in the 5th Asian Para Games scheduled to be held from October 18 to 24 in Aichi Nagoya, Japan. Hemant Dangi, General Secretary of the Nepal Taekwondo Association, confirmed that Renu will compete in the event through a wild card entry. Earlier, Palesha Goverdhan had secured selection based on her ranking, ensuring Nepal’s representation in para taekwondo.

Currently, Renu holds the 26th position in the world rankings and 13th in the Asian rankings. She is also a para taekwondo coach. Renu previously won a bronze medal in the women’s under 47 kg K-44 category at the Asian Youth Games held in Dubai from December 6 to 14, 2025 (2082 Mangsir 21 to 28). She has also participated in the 10th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship in Malaysia (2025) and the 11th Asian Para Taekwondo Championship in Mongolia (2026).

The Asian Para Games will be held in Japan from October 18 to 24 (Kartik 1 to 7). Two Nepali athletes have already secured their participation in para taekwondo. Palesha Goverdhan was selected based on her ranking. Palesha, Nepal’s historic bronze medalist at the Paris Paralympics, also won bronze at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China. Nepali athletes have been participating regularly in the Asian Para Games since its inception.
