12th Shrawan, Biratnagar – In response to escalating tensions between two communities, the Sunsari District Administration Office has declared an indefinite curfew in nine local units of the district. The curfew covers a 200-meter radius on both sides of Mahendra Highway within Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City wards 16 and 17, Ramdhuni Municipality wards 1 and 5, as well as the entire areas of Inaruwa Municipality, Duhabi Municipality, Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality, Kosi Rural Municipality, Ghadi Rural Municipality, Dewanganj Rural Municipality, Harinagar Rural Municipality, and Barju Rural Municipality.
The curfew, effective from 9 PM on Tuesday evening until further notice, was ordered by Chief District Officer Indradev Prasad Aryal following a meeting of the District Security Committee. According to the administration, all movement, gatherings, processions, demonstrations, meetings, assemblies, and sit-ins are strictly prohibited within the designated areas for the duration of the curfew.
Any individual found violating the curfew will face legal action in accordance with prevailing laws.
