Two male Nepalese skaters, Gajendra Bardewa and Sharadkumar Rai, who will compete in the 20th Asian Games in Japan, are scheduled to depart for Bangkok this Friday, according to the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association. The athletes will train for nearly a month at Hua Mak Skate Park in Bangkok to prepare for the Asian Games, which begin on September 19, 2023 (Aswin 3 in the Nepali calendar).
Ramcharitra Mehta, Member-Secretary of the National Sports Council, bid farewell to the athletes and reaffirmed the commitment to provide one-year insurance coverage for all participating athletes. The training in Bangkok is part of their preparation for the event, which will be held in Aichi Nagoya, Japan.
Both athletes will compete in the street category during the Asian Games. Saty Thapa, General Secretary of the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association, informed that while the skaters will undergo approximately one month of training at Hua Mak Skate Park, the decision on whether they will continue training in Bangkok or return to Nepal after this period is still pending. Discussions regarding the continuation of training in Bangkok are ongoing.
Member-Secretary Ramcharitra Mehta encouraged the team to maintain high morale throughout their participation at the Asian Games and highlighted efforts to provide maximum facilities to the athletes. He also confirmed the provision of insurance coverage for all participants during the event.
