The recently opened skywalk in Bhedetar, Dhankuta, has become a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists. Developed through a public-private partnership, the skywalk has welcomed over 309,000 visitors in two years. The project operators have called for the provincial government to review tax policies, citing discouragement among investors due to high taxes.
Situated in one of Koshi Province’s premier tourist destinations, the Bhedetar skywalk offers panoramic views of eastern Nepal’s natural beauty. Hundreds of tourists visit daily. Anandi Kumar Chaudhary from Dewanganj Rural Municipality-6 in Sunsari described his recent visit to Bhedetar as a unique experience. The skywalk’s transparent glass floor provides visitors a thrilling view, combining elements of awe and natural splendor.
The skywalk began operation on July 26, 2024 (2081 Shrawan 11), following an agreement signed on February 21, 2021 (2077 Falgun 9) between the Provincial Investment Authority and the developers. With an investment of approximately NPR 20 million, this attraction recently celebrated its second anniversary. Visitors traverse a 41-meter-long and 2-meter-wide glass bridge that offers stunning surrounding vistas.
Local businesses report that the skywalk has significantly boosted tourism promotion in Bhedetar. The increased footfall has positively impacted hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related enterprises. Tourist numbers notably surge during holidays, public vacations, and festivals.
