Nepal will send 136 athletes to compete in 22 different sports at the 20th Asian Games scheduled to be held in Japan. The National Sports Council has announced a total contingent of 168 members, including athletes and coaches. Nepal will participate in team events such as kabaddi, volleyball, and cricket.
Kathmandu, 20th Shrawan — From September 19 to October 4, Nepal will be represented by 136 athletes at the 20th Asian Games in Japan. Saroj Kumar Pokhrel, head of the Sports Development Department at the National Sports Council (NSC), confirmed that the final number of athletes participating across 22 sports has been finalized.
This time, Nepal will compete in karate, kabaddi, archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, golf, judo, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis, wrestling, volleyball, canoe slalom, dance sports, skateboarding, taekwondo, and ushu. However, the final lineup does not include the e-sports competition.
The previous 19th Asian Games were held in Hangzhou, China, in 2023, where Nepal participated with 253 athletes across 29 sports. For this edition, Nepal has set an ambitious goal to win double-digit medals, including gold. To date, Nepal has won only 3 silver and 23 bronze medals in Asian Games history.
