After 70 years, a rare tiger species has been reintroduced into the forests of Kazakhstan. The Amur tiger had become extinct in Central Asia nearly a century ago. Recently, a female tiger brought from Russia was released into the Ili-Balkhash reserve in Kazakhstan. This project aims to restore the presence of this rare tiger in the region.
Four tigers, including a female named Umit, were brought from Russia. Officials stated that the remaining three tigers will be monitored to assess Umit’s adaptation before they are released into the wild.
