Following an attack by Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region, at least 302 residents are still unaccounted for, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova reported. The Russian side claims that over 76,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or injured during the August 6, 2024, attack launched by Ukrainian forces.
Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the Russian General Staff, informed President Vladimir Putin that the Kursk area has been completely cleared of Ukrainian armed forces. The Ukrainian military began the assault on the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. Since then, the fate of 302 residents near the border remains unknown.
Speaking to the Russian news agency TASS, Lantratova said, “The search for the missing local residents has been the biggest challenge since the initial days.” She added, “The status of 302 people is still unknown.” During the operations in the Kursk region, the Russian side reports that more than 76,000 Ukrainian soldiers were either killed or wounded. Additionally, over 7,700 pieces of military equipment have been destroyed, and around 430 Ukrainian soldiers have been taken prisoner.
