In Yemen’s central and eastern regions, a missile and drone attack carried out by Houthi rebels has resulted in the deaths of at least 30 government soldiers. The Yemeni Ministry of Defense has strongly condemned the assault as an act of betrayal and warned of a firm response at an appropriate time.
On August 8, Kathmandu time, according to the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, ballistic missiles and drones were used in an attack at 10:40 a.m. on various military camps in the Marib and Hadramaut provinces. Many soldiers were injured in the strike. This is considered one of the deadliest attacks between the two sides in recent years.
The Houthi rebels, who control large parts of northwestern Yemen, claimed responsibility for targeting the camps amid preparations for a major Saudi military buildup against them. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition forces reported another attack on the Najran border area resulting in injuries to 11 civilians.
Among the injured were seven Saudi nationals, including a woman and a four-year-old child, along with four foreign nationals from Yemen, Pakistan, and Egypt. In addition, a severe fire broke out in the Najran area on Thursday, with flames and smoke visible from a great distance. Firefighters and rescue teams are working to bring the blaze under control.
