Two farmers from Balara, Sarlahi, Suresh Prasad Singh and Nagendra Prasad Singh, were released on Friday after spending 38 days in an Indian jail. The Judicial Court of Sitamadi District ordered their release on bail, leading to their freedom. The farmers stated that they had to go to the Indian market to purchase fertilizer due to its unavailability in Nepal and that they were falsely implicated in a case.
Immediately after returning home, Suresh Prasad Singh gave a brief statement, saying, “How is your health? It is fine.” He explained that on the morning of Ashadh 17, he went to the border market to buy fertilizer. He said, “We went to buy fertilizer, but the SSB patrol arrested us.” He claimed to have brought one 45-kilogram bag of urea, while the SSB confiscated two bags of urea and six bags of DAP fertilizer.
Suresh Prasad said, “We purchased the fertilizer in cooperation with Indian citizens who have Aadhaar cards.” He reported poor treatment in jail and inadequate food. He added, “I had already plowed the field and prepared it for transplanting when I was arrested.” He also appealed to the government to address the fertilizer supply issue.
