August 7, Kathmandu: Savin Tamang was crowned champion of the Kathmandu Sports Club (NRT) Nepal Top 16 Grand Masters Snooker Championship held on Saturday.
The event, organized by one of Nepal’s oldest clubs, Kathmandu Sports Club (NRT), saw Savin defeat Rohit Chhetri comfortably by 6–1 in the final.
The final was played in a best-of-eleven format with Savin winning frames with scores of 59–32, 1–70, 73–52, 59–41, 74–22, 68–13, and 67–17. This marked Savin’s third victory over Rohit.
Meanwhile, Rohit Chhetri faced defeat in the final for the second consecutive time. He had also been runner-up in the previous Nepal Masters Snooker, losing to Som Lama.
The championship took place at NRT’s own building in Tripureshwor. Savin received a trophy along with a cash prize of NPR 111,111. Runner-up Rohit received NPR 51,000 and a trophy.
Semifinalists Wangchu Tamang and Rajan Gurung were each awarded NPR 25,000 and a trophy.
The chief guests included Durga Maharjan, member of the KKM NRT Advisory Committee; Dipendra Shrestha, member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly; Sundar Narasingh Joshi, president of NRT; Satish Krishna Shrestha, general secretary; Rajendra Shakya (Maila), competition coordinator; and Saroj Mulmi, president of the Nepal Billiard Snooker and Pool Association. They presented trophies and prizes to the winners.
The tournament began on July 30.
