English Premier League champions Arsenal have signed midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United for £75 million. The 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder has agreed to a four-year contract with Arsenal, which includes an option to extend for an additional year. The former Newcastle captain had already publicly expressed his desire to join Arsenal. He stated that leaving Newcastle was among the most difficult decisions he has ever made. “This transfer is extremely tough for me because Newcastle means a lot to me. However, I wanted to experience something new in my life. I am ready to take on a new challenge for myself and my family,” he said.
Guimarães expressed confidence that joining Arsenal was the right decision and outlined his plans to help win titles and create history at the club.
Guimarães joined Newcastle in January 2022 when the club was facing a relegation battle. Since then, he has played a vital role in the team’s revival. Under his captaincy, Newcastle won the 2025 EFL Cup final against Liverpool, securing their first major domestic trophy in seven decades. Additionally, he helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025. However, last season Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League.
