Woman in the Netherlands Removing Over 250 Forced Tattoos After Surviving Abuse

Yoke, a woman from the Netherlands, endured years of abuse. Her former partners forced her to get tattoos all over her body while she was confined at home. The tattoos bore the names of these individuals not only on her face but on dozens of other locations. They included markings on her forehead, nose, cheeks, and around her eyes. The 53-year-old Yoke is receiving support from an organization called ‘Spet Tattoo,’ which provides free laser treatment to people freed from abuse in the Netherlands. Over the past two and a half years, Yoke has undergone 12 sessions of treatment to remove the tattoos from her face. According to the organization’s director, Andy Henka, women receiving help have reported that these tattoos were forcibly applied, often presented as a sign of ‘love or someone’s ownership.’
