A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake in western Colombia has caused numerous casualties. Full details on the extent of damage are yet to be confirmed. However, officials have indicated the death toll may rise.
The Colombian Geological Service reports the earthquake originated 103 kilometers underground near San Jose del Palmar. The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama.
Following the quake, people in several Colombian cities have been evacuated from buildings to safer locations.
Reports indicate some individuals remain trapped in collapsed structures.
This earthquake comes less than two months after two devastating quakes in parts of Venezuela killed over 6,100 people.
