Newly appointed captain Sandeep Lamichhane has stated that the Nepal national cricket team’s primary objective is to win the ACC Premier Cup. Before participating in the Premier Cup, Nepal plans to conduct a 10-day training camp in Bangalore, India, preparing according to conditions similar to those in Malaysia. Sandeep emphasized that the change in captaincy was an important decision made in the interest of the team and the country, and pledged to address previous tour shortcomings while moving forward. The new captain of Nepal’s national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, made it clear that securing the ACC Premier Cup title is the team’s foremost priority. With training scheduled in Bangalore before the tournament, Sandeep said during the farewell ceremony on Friday, “Our goal is victory. We will make every effort to bring the trophy home.” Nepal will train for about 10 days in Bangalore ahead of the ACC Premier Cup. Sandeep explained that practicing in an environment similar to Malaysia’s conditions will help the team prepare effectively for the competition.
Sandeep described the captaincy transition not as a personal matter, but as a change made for the benefit of Nepali cricket and the team. He said, “Rohit has left us a legacy. Now, we will focus on how to take it forward. With a new perspective after the captaincy change, we will advance.” He added, “I will fully embrace this change and do my utmost in the interest of the predecessors, the team, myself, and the country.”
Sandeep acknowledged that the team’s performances on the last two tours did not meet expectations, but said they have been given the opportunity to learn from those mistakes. “We could not perform as expected on the last two tours. We gave our best, but for some reasons, we fell short,” he stated. “Now, we will correct those errors and prepare thoroughly for the upcoming tours.” The ACC Premier Cup will be held from August 30 to September 12, with the winning team earning a spot in next year’s Asia Cup, which will be played in ODI format.
