Ashish Banerjee, a leader of the Trinamool Congress and former minister, was found dead at his party office located at his residence. According to police, his body was discovered hanging at the office in Rampurhat, Birbhum district. A suicide note was also recovered at the scene, and authorities are investigating the cause of death.
Ashish Banerjee, considered close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was found dead early Sunday morning in a room of the party office. He had been elected five consecutive times from the Rampurhat assembly constituency. According to a senior police official, Banerjee’s body was found hanging inside the office room and has been sent for postmortem examination.
Local residents first alerted the police after seeing Banerjee hanging at the party office. Upon receiving the information, police personnel from the Rampurhat police station recovered the body. Ashish had been continuously winning elections from the Rampurhat assembly seat since 2001. However, in this year’s assembly election, he was defeated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dhruv Shah. During Mamata Banerjee’s government, Ashish Banerjee had served as Minister of School Education and Agriculture.
