Nature explorer Majid Batebi has released a video of a rare species of ‘Pallas’s cat’ from the high mountainous area of Nawa in Larijan district, Mazandaran province, Iran. This cat is known for its extremely shy nature and is typically not easily seen in the wild. However, Batebi’s strategically placed camera trap successfully recorded footage of one such cat.
The Pallas’s cat found in Central Asia is somewhat larger than domestic cats. Its body length is approximately 60 centimeters, with a tail length of about 25 centimeters. It weighs nearly 3.5 kilograms. Iran lies on the western edge of the natural habitat range of this species, and occasionally, the cat can also be spotted in northeastern parts of Iran.
