The US military has been operating a covert corridor in the southern channel of the Strait of Hormuz, transporting approximately 10 million barrels of oil daily. The US military has secretly established a maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz. Through this corridor, millions of barrels of crude oil are transported daily. US officials disclosed this information to Axios. The operation has been ongoing in recent weeks. Between 15 and 20 oil tankers transit each night through the southern channel off the coast of Oman. Approximately 10 million barrels of oil are exported daily via this route.
This mission is not limited to protecting oil-laden tankers alone; the US military also assists empty tankers entering the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz from the Arabian Sea. Full details of the operation have not previously been made public. According to US officials, “We have maintained control over the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz for two months. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps can cause problems, but they do not control the waterway. Control remains in our hands.”
A two-week military campaign by the US Central Command contributed to the success of this operation. It degraded Iran’s radar and maritime surveillance capabilities. Iranian attacks have damaged some vessels, but many assaults were successfully intercepted by US forces. Earlier this week, the US military shot down eight Iranian drones and two cruise missiles.
