Mobile App Launched to Display Location and Arrival Times of Public Transport in Kathmandu Valley

A mobile application named KTM Public Transport, which shows the location and arrival times of public vehicles in Kathmandu Valley, was launched on Wednesday. The app currently features GPS tracking for nearly 1,200 vehicles, with plans to increase this number. The council has approved programs promoting bus stops, night bus services, GPS tracking, and cashless fare and ticketing systems. (4 Bhadra, Kathmandu)

The KTM Public Transport mobile application aims to provide real-time information about public transportation. The app was unveiled by Sunita Dangol, Chairperson of the Federal Capital Urban Public Transport Council and Acting Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, during the council’s third meeting on Wednesday. In her address, she emphasized the need to simplify the transport system within the valley and expand night service hours.

Chiribaba Maharjan, Vice Chairperson of the meeting and Chief of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, highlighted the necessity of an effective system to enhance the experience of public bus users, stating, “This council can play a significant role in improving public transportation.” Kuver Nepali, Executive Officer of the Federal Capital Urban Public Transport Authority, informed attendees about past challenges in advancing the authority’s work. For the current year, programs approved include designating bus stops and pick-drop points, setting regulations for night bus operations, developing contract models, and implementing GPS tracking in partnership with local governments.
